Former tennis standout Genie Bouchard has shown one of the most notable improvement curves in professional pickleball, emerging as a legitimate contender on the PPA Tour in 2025. After a challenging transition from tennis, she steadily elevated her level, reaching multiple women’s singles finals and displaying growing consistency in her game.
One of the key factors behind this progression has been a more refined approach to equipment selection. Switching to the Proton Project Flamingo (and even training with a wooden paddle to sharpen her “feel” and touch) helped her improve control and confidence on court—all of which translated into better match execution.
Beyond equipment adjustments, Bouchard placed a strong emphasis on footwork and court movement, particularly around the kitchen line. By improving how she moves in and out of key positions, she has been able to strike the ball more efficiently and reduce off-balance situations. This technical improvement, combined with a renewed focus on strength and conditioning, has allowed her to sustain intensity longer and execute with greater precision during extended rallies.
Looking ahead to 2026, Bouchard has made her ambitions clear: she aims to compete for titles and gold medals while continuing to climb the professional rankings. Her progress highlights an important lesson for athletes at all levels—meaningful improvement in pickleball comes from a balanced approach that combines smart equipment choices, disciplined movement training, and consistent physical preparation.
