🏓 North America Takes on Macao: 2026 ITTF World Cup Highlights

Macao, April 2026 – The lights are bright and the competition is fierce at the Galaxy Arena. As the group stages of the ITTF Men’s and Women’s World Cups unfold, our Canadian and American athletes have been delivering heart-stopping performances against the world’s best.

🇨🇦 Team Canada: Resilience on the Table

The Canadian veterans showed exactly why they belong in the elite circle.

  • Mo Zhang nearly pulled off a massive upset against Japan’s Mima Ito. In a grueling five-game battle, Zhang pushed the world star to the limit, eventually falling 2-3 (10-12, 12-10, 13-11, 4-11, 4-11). She bounced back brilliantly later, sweeping Romania’s Elizabeta Samara 3-0 to stay in the hunt
  • Eugene Wang faced a tough opener against France’s Thibault Poret, falling 1-3, but showed his trademark fighting spirit in a narrow 2-3 loss to Germany’s Benedikt Duda.

🇺🇸 Team USA: Young Stars, Big Battles

The US contingent brought high energy to the group stages with several “down-to-the-wire” matches.

  • Lily Zhang provided one of the most exciting matches of the week against India’s Manika Batra. After falling behind 0-2, Lily saved match points to force a fifth game, ultimately falling just short at 2-3 (7-11, 2-11, 16-14, 11-5, 6-11).
  • Amy Wang and Kanak Jha both faced stiff international competition, with Amy falling 1-3 to Charlotte Lutz (FRA) and Kanak dropping a tight 2-3 decision to Hong Kong’s Lam Siu Hang.

Despite the narrow losses, the level of play proves that North American table tennis is more competitive than ever. Onward to the next rounds!
