Review: GEWO Nexxus EL Pro 53 Hard Rubber 2.3 Max

Product Review: GEWO Nexxus EL Pro 53 Hard Rubber 2.3 Max

A few weeks ago, I had to change my forehand rubber because I had to play a league match and my rubber had become illegal. Unfortunately, it was no longer in stock.

Thierry, another trainer from Club Prestige, suggested that I try the Nexus EL 53 degrees in Max version. Let me start off by saying that I am a player that “boosts” his rubber.

I was really amazed by this rubber. Here are some of the comments I made to other coaches at the club:

  • Very good in terms of speed, due to the hard plate.
  • The effect is also very, very good.
  • Control is average, but still very good. You must take into account that, in my case, the rubber was boosted. Not boosted, control should be very good.
  • Excellent for close-to-the-table power play, allows for very short arm movements while remaining effective. On this point, I fully agree with Gewo.
  • Mid-distance: plays very well, providing a little top spin with power. For a variation of top spin, I would recommend the Hype XT (softer sponge).
  • The hard sponge allows the rubber to have a very good response, the ball leaves quickly and does what you want it to do.
  • For close-to-the-table play (short game), it allows the player to put a lot of effect on the ball, making flips very effective.
  • The trajectory is very good because it is direct and easily predictable.
  • The sweet spot is normal.
  • It is best to put this rubber on a hard wood to take full advantage of its capabilities.
  • The rubber (even boosted) keeps its characteristics for a long time, and has good durability.

The Gewo Nexus EL 53 degrees 2.3 max is especially suitable for a close-to-the-table style of play or mid-distance power/speed.

I liked this rubber so much that I’m think of putting the same one on the backhand too!
